Travel Talk: PUBLIC Hotel in SoHo

As an interior designer, I am alway searching for a unique stay wherever I travel. Every year I go back to the East Coast to see my family for the holidays, so when I was researching hotels in New York last year I stumbled upon The PUBLIC Hotel in Soho. This was the one. Incredibly designed and unique, this hotel is a must see even if you don’t stay there. The rooftop bar has exceptional views of the city, the lounge areas feel warm and homey yet elevated, and the restaurant there, Popular, with its Peruvian-inspired cuisine — SO good. Plus, it’s an Ian Schrager hotel and if you know that name, you know it’s good.

Let me give you the rundown of the thoughtfully curated interior design details that make this hotel a haven of timeless chic.

A Grand Arrival: Stepping into the lobby of PUBLIC Hotel, I was immediately captivated by its grandeur and contemporary allure. The soaring ceilings, bathed in soft, diffused lighting, set the stage for a refined ambience. Sleek marble flooring extended an elegant welcome, juxtaposing beautifully with polished metal accents. It was an entrance that hinted at the exceptional design journey that lay ahead.

Minimalist Serenity: As I ventured into the guest room, I discovered an oasis of minimalist serenity. The design concept celebrated simplicity, utilizing clean lines and a restrained color palette to create a tranquil atmosphere. Crisp white linens draped over a plush platform bed, while warm wood tones brought a sense of natural comfort. The room's minimalist aesthetic was accentuated by sleek furnishings with a touch of mid-century modern influence. Subtle lighting choices, such as sculptural pendant lamps, added a warm and intimate glow to the space.

Communal Spaces Designed for Connection: PUBLIC Hotel is an embodiment of the spirit of communal living, with carefully designed spaces that inspire connection and conversation. The Public Kitchen, the hotel's signature restaurant, beckoned with its inviting design. Rich wood paneling, complemented by brushed brass accents, created an ambiance that felt both contemporary and timeless. The furniture selections ranged from plush upholstered chairs to sleek barstools, inviting guests to linger and indulge in the culinary delights on offer.

Harmonious Blend of Materials: Throughout the hotel, a harmonious blend of materials delighted the senses. In the lobby, smooth marble surfaces harmonized with sleek metal finishes, while warm woods brought a touch of organic warmth. The guest rooms featured a mix of plush textiles, smooth leather, and polished surfaces, creating a textural symphony that exuded understated luxury. These material choices were carefully curated to evoke a sense of sophistication and comfort.

A Creative Fusion of Art and Design: PUBLIC Hotel seamlessly integrates art and design, showcasing captivating artwork that adds another layer of visual interest. Thoughtfully placed sculptures and curated artwork adorned the public spaces, creating an immersive experience for guests. The synergy between artistic expression and the hotel's interior design further enhanced the atmosphere, immersing visitors in a world where creativity and style converge.
